Typography Homework 3/8

Journal 6:

Jennifer Morla:

Jennifer Morla only showed two images for her questions. She had a molded plywood chair and she believes that it has a timeless appeal. For the future she wants to have design being smarter, incorporating humanity, touching lives, and effecting change.

Ellen Lupton:

Ellen talked about the book and how timeless and perfect it already is and she also talked about the Amazon Kindle. She loves the Amazon Kindle because it is connecting systems and she can have all of her books at once. She talks about the way we will reinvent the book, the way we read, the way we spread information.

Chip Kidd:

Chip believes in the importance of creating an identity. He wants designers to have recognition so they don't have to get drunk off of cheap alcohol. When you have recognition you buy the good stuff. He is inspired by what he works on and NYC. He also likes to spy on people. :)

Debbie Millman:

Debbie is really inspired by the pencil. She also really likes Felissimo colored pencils from Japan. She believes that design should solve the problem of the process of being undertaken of the Large Hadron Collider. It has 17 miles of tubing to smash atomic particles to understand how the universe was created. (sounds like angels and demons)

Sean Adams:

Sean Adams is inspired by the Declaration of Independence because people designed an entire government and it has evolved. He feels like there is a lot of pressure on designers to solve the problems and that we feel as if we need to join Greenpeace. He thinks the next problem for design to solve is the next project you are given.

I really like what Ellen Lupton had to say because I also think that the book is one of the most perfectly designed objects. I don't really think that the Amazon Kindle is perfectly designed but it looks interesting.. nothing I would ever invest in. I'm perfectly happy with books.

What I am most inspired by is color. When I see a really good color I try to go with it and I see things and shapes forming with that color. Other things that inspire me are photographs, being outside when it's nice, and old memories and feelings.

I agree with 100% though with Sean Adams on what the next problem for design to solve is being the next project at hand that was given to you.
